Go Green Day Success

Thank you to pupils, parents and staff for supporting last Friday's Go Green Day and helping us to raise almost £1,330 for green causes.

The Eco-Committee members organised a very successful cake sale which raised more than £300 - they are very grateful to everybody who brought in cakes for the sale. Also, the canteen served green food as well as food which was sourced locally to mark the day.

Many pupils made the effort to travel to school in sustainable ways, with many cycling or walking. Also, a Year 7 class took part in a project to ensure that our woodlands are sustainably managed and collected native oak seed - acorns - on the school grounds, which will be grown on in a tree nursery, and replanted in Welsh woodlands. We are grateful to Peter Morrison from Natural Resources Wales who came into the school to work with the pupils.

In addition, pupils started building the igloo out of milk bottles. We have received hundreds of milk bottles and aim to complete the igloo in the first few weeks following the half term break.

Congratulations to pupils who took part in the Go Green Day competitions. We received very creative entries including poems about litter and 3D sculptures made of recycled materials.

The money raised will be split between The Size of Wales charity, which aims to protect an area of rain forest twice the size of Wales, and eco-initiatives in the school.

Collection for Syrian Relief Appeal

Mr Morgan coordinated a collection from teachers at Cowbridge Comprehensive School of emergency relief items needed by Syrian refugees.

Items collected included towells, toileteries such as toothpaste and shower gel, sanitary items, first aid, tents, sleeping bags, blankets, baby items and tinned food.

The items will be dropped off at a collection point at Bryntirion Community Centre in Bridgend. They will then be transported to Manchester tonight and flown to help Syrian refugees in Greece and Macedonia. Thank you to everyone for their contributions.
